Provisions
April 2020 - We’ve been trading provisions with our neighbors. Eggs for honey. Anyone have vinegar? How about food coloring? It reminds me of when I was a child and my mom would send me next door to fetch a teaspoon of baking powder or to deliver a stick of butter. When and why did we lose this interdependence within our communities? I see it in the neighborhood I grew up in. Old friends moved away, new families moved in, and somewhere along the way we forgot we could knock on the neighbor’s door instead of hopping in the car and coming home with a trunk-load of things we didn’t actually need. If anything sticks after this is all said and done, I hope it’s that my neighbors know I’m always good for a cup of sugar.
