Summer on the farm

May 2020 - Summer on the farm sometime in the mid-1930s. My great grandmother, they called her “Bunny”, is on the far right with what looks like her Girl Scout troop, given the berets and bandanas. I love pouring over old photos like these, looking for the smallest details that tell the story. Who were these girls? Who did they become? How did the Depression affect them? What did they have to do without? Did they know their country was on the brink of war? What did they sacrifice? Did they send off their brothers, friends, sweethearts? Did they get married? Go to college? Have families? Careers? What I do know is Bunny’s story. It’s one of love, commitment and family. It shaped generations. The other thing I know - I want those linen overalls.
